                UARS WEEKLY STATUS REPORT - 15 Feb 2002

********************************************************************

***********
SOLSTICE
***********

SOLSTICE continues to operate normally, taking solar data on all
available orbital tracking periods. This week we performed a coordinated
experiment with the SEE instrument on TIMED.

***********
SUSIM
***********

SUSIM performed its daily mid-resolution and MgII solar scans
during periods of predicted UARS telemetry.

Most backlogged level 0 data from December and January has now been
delivered from the PACOR-A system. Most of these days have been
processed to level 3AS using the RSS system on the SUSIM RAC.

ACRIM
***********

Nothing received.

PEM
***********

     A detailed review of the PEM CICEL PROCs were conducted. 10 of 51 PROCs
were found to be missing. These need to be included in the CECIL conversion.
Of the 41 remaining PROCs, 39 of the CECIL PROCs were modified. PEM has
resubmitted the 39 CECIL PROCs and is waiting for the 10 missing CECIL PROCs
to be sent to PEM for review. PEM would like to know if the instrument
activation STOL procedures archived in the FOT are to be converted by GSFC.

     PEM continues to receive NMC data files from NOAA. No problems have
been encountered.

     PEM awaits support of the UARS Traceability Mission for the TIMED mission.
Initial meetings with a GUVI team representative have highlighted the need
for knowledge of conjunction periods. Investigation is underway into
identifying times when the PEM spectrometers and the GUVI view plane are
sampling from the same volume of the atmosphere.

*Beginning of power orbit day (PEM activation): array current >5 amps, array
     voltage >53.5 volts, and battery current >2.0 amps.
 End of power orbit day (PEM deactivation): time in power orbit day >4 minutes,
     array current <9 amps, and battery currents <0.2 amps.
 Power orbit day variation: ~39-40 min at yaw to ~50-51 min at maximum beta.

The MPG participated in the UARS Ground System
Rehost Meeting on 14 February 2002.

The MPG continues to serve as the point-of-contact
for UARS instrument operations to support re-engineering
of the UARS Mission Operations Concept to develop
capabilities for the Science Traceability Mission.

Daily processing of instrument Daily Activity Plans
continues with no problems.

                           REPORTING PERIOD

This report covers 02 February 2002 (Orbit 56838, GMT Day 033) through
08 February 2002 (Orbit 56943, GMT Day 039).

                         SPACECRAFT OPERATION

The observatory is now in Forward Flight (Southern Hemisphere viewing)
and is performing nominally under two-battery operations. The
instrument operational changes were:

                    INSTRUMENT OPERATIONAL CHANGES

       Instrument    Time          Orbit     Comment
       SUSIM         033/0026      56838     Power OFF
       SUSIM 037/1206 56905 Power ON (start)
       SUSIM 038/0523 56916 Power ON (completed)
       HALOE         039/0005      56928     Power ON, part 1
       HALOE 039/1024 56934 Power ON complete

A Reverse-to-Forward Yaw Around maneuver (number 106) was successfully
executed in Orbit 56250 beginning 035/01:01:57Z and completing at
035/01:39:07Z on 04 February 2002. The SOLSTICE instrument was in day
only and all other instruments were in their off or standby mode
(including HRDI and PEM). Due to the SA position at 269 degrees, the
effective night length of the spacecraft after the maneuver was
approximately 57.1 minutes. Post maneuver analysis of data indicate
that during the Yaw Around, the end-of-night load bus voltage was
23.88 volts and the average depths of discharge (DODs) on Batteries 2
and 3 were approximately 21.85 and 21.49 percent respectively. The
next (forward-to-reverse) YAW is scheduled for 08 March 2002 (DOY
067).

The beta angle ranged between the angles of 6.31 degrees to 17.65
degrees for this report period. The beta angle is now decreasing
towards a minimum angle of 0 degrees on 08 March 2002 (DOY 067).

Spacecraft battery 1, 2, and 3 performance monitoring continues.
Battery 1 remains OFF the charge relay. Battery 2 and Battery 3 are
currently maintaining greater than 23.52 V end-of-night (EON) load bus
voltage. Battery temperatures are stable with a temperature delta
between Battery 2 and Battery 3 of 1.25 to 1.31 degrees C. Additional
battery performance data for each battery on 02 February 2002 and 08
February 2002 are provided in Appendix D.

The clock error ranged from -11.0 to 11.6 msec during this report
period. Clock rate adjustments are listed in Appendix C.

All instrument and subsystem engineers were advised on the initial
excursion of ALERTS or Out-Of-Limits conditions detected by the FOT
for this report. A summary is listed below and the details of ALERT
and Out-Of-Limits occurrences are listed in Appendix B.

    OUT-OF-LIMITS  =    03
    ALERTS         =    00

The following real-time command sheets were executed for the listed
operational element(s) during this report period (see Appendix A).

    FOT            =    11
    SOLSTICE       =    3
    SUSIM          =    3
    HALOE          =    2

UARS Anomaly Reports initiated during this report period are listed in
Appendix E and summarized below.

    FOT            =    1
    SOLSTICE       =    1

One (1) Anomaly Reports remained OPEN at the end of this report period
(see Appendix E).

TRANSPONDER FREQUENCIES:
    Transponder A:  01/333  - 2287.496855
    Transponder B:  02/002  - 2287.498845

                        GROUND SYSTEM OPERATION

Two (2) operational support problems occurred this period. Anomaly
Reports are included in Appendix E.

The data loss calculations are no longer being supplied by Data
Capture Facility (DCF).

                       OTHER SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

                       UARS SATELLITE OPERATIONS

As scheduled the first load was sent to UARS from the Eclipse system
on 06 February 2002. The load sent was a partial table load without
checksum. The load worked properly and was verified in telemetry.

On 07 February 2002 a stored command load was sent to UARS from
Eclipse. The command load and its corresponding time tags were sent
along with the safety loads. All of these loads performed as expected
and the spacecraft executed this stored command load correctly. RTS
and ephemeris loads are scheduled to be sent next week.

                               MEETINGS

The FOT attended a UARS CECIL PROC Review on Thursday, February 07,
2002.

The FOT attended a UARS Eclipse Working Meeting on Thursday, February
07, 2002.

                       FUTURE SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

The next UARS Yaw slew is scheduled for 08 March 2002 (DOY 067). This
maneuver will be a Forward to Reverse Flight maneuver (Northern
Hemisphere viewing).
