******************************************************************** UARS WEEKLY STATUS REPORT - 14 FEB 2003 ******************************************************************** *********** SOLSTICE *********** SOLSTICE continues to operate normally, taking solar data on all available orbital tracking periods. *********** SUSIM *********** Nothing received. *********** ACRIM *********** Nothing received. *********** PEM *********** Nothing received *********** HALOE *********** HALOE continues successful operations with all engineering parameters within nominal values. We have detected more failed processing days requiring reprocessing event-by-event. Some of the files in January and February were corrupted and best described as a shift in the time in the files. It apparently has been traced to an Internet problem at GSFC and a solution is being pursued. Use of the tape recorder continues to be successfully scheduled and most of the HALOE events are captured by TDRS or the recorder. However we are starting to notice some data drop out that is affecting results. The HALOE FOT is now more closely monitoring the data and categorizing data drop out and bad data. *********** MLS *********** Nothing received. *********** HRDI *********** Nothing received. *********** WINDII *********** Nothing received. *********** MPG *********** The MPG continues to serve as the point-of-contact for UARS instrument operations in support of the Science Traceability Mission of UARS. This week electronic communications have not worked between the UARS Command Management System and the Remote Analysis Computers (RACs) of HALOE, HRDI and SUSIM. This problem appears to be caused by outage of the NASCOM circuit at GSFC between Building 23 and Building 32. Technicians have looked at this NASCOM circuit from time-to-time during the week, but have been unable to fix it. Maybe they will have better luck next week. Meanwhile, these HALOE, HRDI, and SUSIM are submitting their daily activity plans (DAPs) and microprocessor loads (MPLs) via email to the MPG where a work around procedure is used to add these DAPs and MPLs to the CMS data base. *********** CDHF *********** Nothing received. *********** FOT *********** REPORTING PERIOD This report covers 01 February 2003 (Orbit 62308, GMT Day 032) through 07 February 2003 (Orbit 62412, GMT Day 038). SPACECRAFT OPERATION The observatory is now in Forward Flight (Southern Hemisphere viewing) and is performing nominally under two-battery operations. The instrument operational changes were: INSTRUMENT OPERATIONAL CHANGES Instrument Time Orbit Comment HALOE 031/1241 62300 POWER ON PEM 033/1317 62331 DAY ONLY WINDII 034/1314 62347 POWER ON PEM 035/1233 62362 AXIS-1 ON The beta angle ranged between the angles of 15.6 degrees to 34.6 degrees for this report period. The beta angle is now increasing towards a maximum angle of 43 degrees on 13 February 2003 (DOY 044). Spacecraft battery 1, 2, and 3 performance monitoring continues. Battery 1 remains OFF the charge relay. Battery 2 and Battery 3 are currently maintaining greater than 23.6 V end-of-night (EON) load bus voltage. Battery temperatures are stable with a temperature delta between Battery 2 and Battery 3 of 0.96 to 1.28 degrees C. Additional battery performance data for each battery on 31 January and 07 February 2003 are provided in Appendix D. The clock error ranged from -4.5 to 3.2 msec during this report period. Clock rate adjustments are listed in Appendix C. All instrument and subsystem engineers were advised on the initial excursion of ALERTS or Out-Of-Limits conditions detected by the FOT for this report. A summary is listed below and the details of ALERT and Out-Of-Limits occurrences are listed in Appendix B. OUT-OF-LIMITS = 00 ALERTS = 00 The following real-time command sheets were executed for the listed operational element(s) during this report period (see Appendix A). FOT = 00 HALOE = 02 PEM = 02 WINDII = 01 UARS Anomaly Reports initiated during this report period are listed in Appendix E and summarized below. FOT = 01 Two (2) Anomaly Reports remained OPEN at the end of this report period (see Appendix E). GROUND SYSTEM OPERATION One (1) operational support problem occurred this period. Anomaly Reports are included in Appendix E. The data loss calculations are no longer being supplied by Data Capture Facility (DCF). OTHER SIGNIFICANT EVENTS UARS SATELLITE OPERATIONS A discussion held with UARS FSW personnel lead the FOT to reinvestigate the UARS Safehold Anomaly. During this re-investigation the FOT found that during the anomalous pass, the HRDI load was sent with 30 additional commands pre-pended to the load (a bit bust of these commands will be performed next week). These thirty commands were generated by Eclipse due to a bug in the "cmdprt.exe" code. This bug is being fixed and a patch will be tested and installed next week. In the meantime, the FOT is aware of the conditions that trigger these bad commands and have informed all FOT personnel to avoid these conditions. MEETINGS The FOT attended the UARS Monthly Status Review on 4 February 2003. FUTURE SIGNIFICANT EVENTS The next UARS Yaw slew is scheduled for 01 March 2003 (DOY 060). This maneuver will be a Forward to Reverse Flight maneuver (Northern Hemisphere viewing).
